Meetings & Programs

Not a member? Guests are always welcome to attend the first meeting for free! Since 1979, FWCG has provided educational programs on the study of calligraphy and related disciplines.

2024-2025 Meetings

The Fort Worth Calligraphers Guild meets on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00pm – 4:00pm from September to May except when coinciding with a National Holiday, then is scheduled on the first or third Sunday at Saint Stephens Episcopal Church in Hurst TX.

General Meetings include a brief business portion, then an educational instructional program.

No meetings are conducted in June, July, or August.

Ludovico Vicentino degli Arrighi created the first instructional manual on how to write in the Italic hand. Walk through the History of the Italic hand along with modern-day methods to write Italic with a broad-edge and mono-line tools.

In the Golden Age of Penmanship (1850-1925), the Spencerian Standard was the backbone of many American scripts such as Business Penmanship (Palmer Method) and Ornamental Penmanship.  But what of other variations that spawn from Spencerian?  Examine Spencerian and explore alternative Spencerian varieties in form and graphic appeal.

Lynn, a creative and gifted calligrapher from Miami Florida, will describe and demonstrate how to make this fun pop up card. Bring paper and tools ready to make a card to enjoy and impress others.  Measurements and tools will be explained  before the meeting.

Members are invited to bring a hand-made Valentine to share and exchange at this annual social event. Members enjoy learning the process of how each card is created. Inspiration runs rampant and refreshments are served.

The Legende alphabet, was originally designed for a type foundry. As with many European designers, Schneidler experimented with this “calligraphic” looking font style for several years. Legende is a favorite with scribes looking for a Middle Eastern or Asian look due to the low-slung and diagonal strokes.

This online mini-class was presented during the Legacies III, the first virtual International Lettering Arts conference in 2021. Mike Gold offers insight on getting your creative juices flowing with the techniques in this mini-class. 90 minutes.
